Environmental Sustainability

We Care

Environmental sustainability is one of the pillars of the HEART Program. This component relies on partnerships that enable the implementation of best practices in the collection, treatment, and transformation of various types of hotel waste.

This collaborative network, a model of shared and circular economy, promotes and strengthens the connection and commitment of the hospitality sector to the community and the environment.

We Care
Collection and Transformation of Cooking Oils

The collection and transformation of cooking oils are carried out by specialized and licensed companies for managing this type of waste.

AHP establishes partnerships with certified companies that take on this crucial component of the program. Currently, Biogenoa is responsible for collecting the oils, and ECOX processes them into cleaning detergents.

Collection of Electrical and Electronic Equipment

These collections are accounted for and converted into financial support to be provided to a Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS), identified by AHP.

Cork Stopper Collection | Green Cork Project

AHP partners with QUERCUS through its adherence to the GREEN CORK project.

This initiative involves the collection of cork stoppers, which are later recycled, and the value generated is applied to reforestation projects with native Portuguese flora through the COMMON FOREST initiative.

For every ton of bottle corks collected, Quercus commits to providing 4,000 trees for planting. AHP is supported by Biogenoa for the collection of cork stoppers.

Paper Waste Collection

This partnership with Gândara – Waste Management aims to collect and destroy outdated archives and confidential documentation, as well as other paper waste. The collected paper is converted into financial support, which is provided to a Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS) identified by AHP.

HEART participants located in the Algarve, Madeira Archipelago, and Porto can also join the “Paper for Food” campaign through the partnership between AHP and the Portuguese Federation of Food Banks Against Hunger. Each ton of collected paper is converted into food that is delivered to Food Banks.

TEXTILE MATERIAL COLLECTION

The collection and routing of end-of-life textiles hold significant importance within the Sustainability pillar of the HEART Program.

AHP has established agreements with Re.store and H.Sarah Trading, companies responsible for collecting and processing this material from associated hotels.
